About Lochside Bowmen

In the Beginning

The Forfar archery club came into being when Lochside Leisure Centre opened in 1975. The club name "Lochside Bowmen" was voted for against the alternate name "Lochside Archery Club".  With "Lochside Bowmen" winning 8 votes to 6.

The first club "shed" was a fibreglass workman's shelter which was upgraded to a small wooden garden shed when we moved from the football ground at Guthrie Park to Lochlands.

In 1977 we held our first outdoor tournament, now an annual competition, at Glamis Castle; an enviable venue for any event.

In 1978 one of the founding members was picked to shoot for Scotland, an honourable tradition that we have continued.

Currently

We have around 20 members and 2 coaches and cater for beginners through to experienced archers.

We meet most Wednesday evenings (starting around 7pm) and

from October to April - we shoot indoors

from April to September - we shoot outdoors

We are affiliated to Archery GB (formally GNAS), Scottish Archery and in 2006 we were awarded an Angus Club Excellence Gold Award for our child friendly club. To find out more please click on the images.
